We know that a vacation on the beach is different from other types of vacations. But what makes them so special? (...)

Author: lynter

We know that a vacation on the beach is different from other types of vacations. But what makes them so special?

White sand, dolphins swimming in blue water and a cabana boy serving you frozen Margaritas. Those are just a few of the things that make a beach vacation stand out from other vacations. The tropical sun seems to melt away all your worries except one… should you turn over to even out your tan or wait five more minutes?

If, however, a laid back, nothing to do vacation isn't for you, there is plenty to do on the beach as well. Vacations on the beach can be leisurely or busy. Maybe you want to go for a swim or learn how to snorkel and check out the reefs. Maybe you want to stayon the beach or are you the more adventurous type and are looking to learn to water ski or surf. The nice thing about vacations is it is all up to you. What ever you want to do, do it!

What should you expect from a vacation package?

That depends on what you want to do and where you want to go. Are you going to the Caribbean? Europe? Are you going to vacation in the Untied States? Mexico? Once you have decided on where you will be vacationing, you have to decide what you want to do when you get there. Because you can get different packages for the same beach, make a list of amenities. One end of the beach may have those cabana boys serving drinks while the other end is open for camping and the middle may be a family atmosphere. So while it would appear that all beaches are the same, they are not. You will want to do your homework before you settle on one.

If a vacation you don't have to 'think' about once you get there sounds like your idea of relaxation, you are in luck. There are so may vacation packages that you will literally have your pick of doing nothing, everything or something in between. The most popular packages for beach vacations will include round trip airfare or cruise to and from the beach. They will have a certain number of days - do you want to stay for three days or the whole week… or longer? Other packages will include tours, meals, attraction tickets and other things as well.

Some ultimate beach vacations
By doing research, you can find some excellent beach vacation packages. For example, with packages that can be customized to include family amusement parks and miniature golf, Myrtle Beach vacation packages are among the best packages available.

Delta, and some other airlines also offer beach vacations. While you may not think about going through an airline for your beach vacation package, they really allow you to customize your vacation right down to the last detail. And since they will most likely have airports with flights into and out of your designation, you might as well make a package deal with them and save on your airfare.

Summary:

Because beach vacation packages can be customized to suit your needs, from relaxing in the sun to guided tours, you will have no problem putting together a package that will fit your wants and likes.

Beach Vacations - The Perfect Way To Spend Your Summer Holidays

"We're going to the beach!" The phrase brings back memories of being children and building sandcastles out of wet sand and letting the waves chase us up and down the coast. (...)

"We're going to the beach!" The phrase brings back memories of being children and building sandcastles out of wet sand and letting the waves chase us up and down the coast.

As we grow, the beach never quite looses it's magic. In fact, it gains more magic as we discover beach vacations have more to offer than just sandcastles and waves. Nothing soothes us after a long work year like the sun tanning us, the water lapping at the shore and knowing there will be a clam bake later on tonight and a bonfire past that. With little doubt, beach vacations are among the most relaxing vacations you can take.

The Caribbean Island of Delos Santorini seems to be almost custom made for the explorer in all of us. They are full of history and they have even preserved a town ravaged by a volcano. You can go through and almost touch history as you explore how ancient people lived.

If you are a frequent surfer and are looking for the best surf spot in the world, you will want to check out the Canary Islands, they have recently been given this honor. Whether you are looking to check out ancient ruins or surf the curl, beach vacations are for you.

You will find there is far more to do than in days gone by. While the image of the beach back when you were a child may have involved sandcastles and people in the shade under big umbrellas sitting on towels or lawn chairs, today, they have become full-blown resorts. You can get a message, have room service send up a tropical drink and then walk on the beach at sunset. You can relax your day away or fill up every moment of it.

The typical tropical beach vacation is about two weeks.

Accommodations on the beach have also undergone a big change over the years. No more with the motel that is 3 hours away. Now there are hotels right on the beach that offer more than just a place to sleep. With room service, beautiful views and other amenities, you may be too relaxed in the room to make it to the beach some days.

Another option on some beaches is to get a bungalow right on the beach so you get the feeling of never having to 'go home' while on vacation.

The great thing about beach vacations is they can truly be anything you want them to be. Deep sea fishing, shopping at the local shops, surfing, laying on the beach, rock climbing, cabana boys serving drinks as you work on your tan, swimming, clam digging, bonfires, etc. Very truly anything you want.

Lately, Greece has become a very popular destination for a lot of celebrities looking for a beach vacation. Thanks to the incredible, full flavored foods and ancient ruins like the Parthenon, this area seems to draw a variety of people.

Your local travel agent can help you plan the perfect beach vacation, if you are unsure or overwhelmed with the choices. Simply tell the agent what you want and they will put together a beach vacation package for you. You will not have to worry about getting your hotel room or flight arrangements - they will do it for you. They will provide you with information of the area such as restaurants and attractions. Basically, they will take care of the stressful part so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy it!

Summary:

No matter you age, activity level or interests, beach vacations are going to hold whatever you want to do. Activities range from staying on the beach and working on your tan to deep-sea fishing and rock climbing. No longer is it just some place to go when you have a weekend you don't know what to do with, but more of a designation when you want to spend some time in a special place.

Water sports: they're fun to watch, exciting to participate in, and they've been enjoyed for ages! We've been trying to dominate water since the time we stood up as humanoids. We try to take air beneath the surface, we build crafts to skim across the surface, and we use the power of its resistance to build strength in our bodies.

Water sets the stage for some of the most unique, and yet some of the most common events in the world. Covering 75% of our Earth's surface, and making up over 90% of our bodies, it doesn't make you wonder why water has played such a huge role in our personal and professional lives. Let's dive in!

Swimming:

Swimming is the most popular of the water sports because it is easily accessible and inexpensive. In several of the earliest stories of classical literature, it's portrayed as a symbol of heroism and religion. The first known documentation of the various swimming methods is Nicolas Wynman's Dialogue Concerning the Art of Swimming, originally published in 1538. (Historians are still trying to figure out who he was having that dialogue with.)

With the development of swimming pools as we know them today, it became easier and safer for average people all over the world to learn to swim and master it. Swimming was made an Olympic event for the first time in 1896. The most publicized swimming events are the insanely ambitious attempts at swimming across the English Channel. It is a feat that requires strength, endurance - for both the distance and the notoriously frigid waters - and a lot of determination and courage.

The first man ever to swim across the English Channel was Matthew Webb of England who did so in 1875. In 1926, Gertrude Ederle from the United States became the first woman to cross the channel. From speed, to endurance, to form - the different styles of swimming are continuously evolving.

Snorkeling:

Snorkeling is a very thrilling water sport that involves viewing exotic fish and aquamarine life. It's like jumping into a painting where the views can range from extreme tranquility to paralyzing fright. Humans are definitely land mammals, and snorkeling is how we can enter a world that was not made for us. Long ago, snorkels were made out of hollow reeds.

After swimming, snorkeling is the next oldest water sport. There is a reference to it made by Pliny the Elder in first century Rome. Leonardo Da Vinci, the world-renowned painter and lesser-known inventor, created a more modern snorkel at the command of the Venetian senat. Da Vinci's snorkel was a tube attached to leather helmets used by divers. Most agreed that his invention was indeed better than a reed. Modern day snorkels are J shaped tubes, usually made of rubber, that open at one end and attach to a mouthpiece at the other end. The average length of the tube is 2 ft (61cm).

Surfing:

Surfing is reported to have first appeared NOT in Hawaii as many people mistakenly believe. Archaeology indicates that Peruvians (people from Peru) were "hanging ten" as early as 200B.C.E. Their boats were made from reeds, and even today, the local fisherman can be seen riding their "little reed horses."

Surfing really gained popularity in America, mostly in California, in the 1920s. By the 1960s, it was a highly popular sport among young people. When surfing first emerged as a water sport, the best surfers were long, handcrafted wooden boards. They were heavy and cumbersome to maneuver on the water.

Modern surfboards are made of lighter synthetic materials, and they're shaped in different aerodynamic fashions that allow more maneuverability and movement on the waves than was originally possible. International Surfing Championships are held all over the world including Australia, California, and of course - Hawaii.

Water Polo:

A water sport that originated in England in the 1870s is water polo. It began as a form of rugby played in the rivers and lakes. The name comes from the English pronunciation of the Balti word for ball, pulu. Americans started playing it in the early twentieth century. Today there are several college teams and clubs for this sport.

For a while, Americans tried their own version of water polo that used a soft rubber ball and a larger pool. This game came to be known as softball water polo. However, due to a high incidence of violent behavior and rough play, this variation was abandoned. Men's water polo became an Olympic event in 1900 and women's water polo was added in 2000.

These are only a few water sports. There are many others that are equally thrilling, like white water rafting, water skiing, underwater hockey, diving, etc.

Whether you are participating or just watching, water sports are amazingly fun. If you want to take a cool break from the traditional sports like football and basketball, give your body the unique experience of water sports.

Summary:

Water sports have excited and energized people all through the ages. This article takes a look at the origins of four of the popular variety - Swimming, Snorkeling, Surfing and Water Polo.

Author: Robb Bailey
Sometimes the hardest thing for beginning surfers is the initial embarrassment of not being good at the sport. (...)

Author: Robb Bailey

Sometimes the hardest thing for beginning surfers is the initial embarrassment of not being good at the sport. Keep in mind that all good surfers had to start on the bottom rung, just like you. I don’t know a single soul who paddled into the water for the first time and didn’t feel defeated and just plain bad about his or her ability. There is a steep learning curve, and the first month can be painful both physically and mentally, but remind yourself that everyone goes through it. You can’t get better unless you experience being bad.

So, it’s not surprising that you will become very familiar with the virtue of humility. As you’re out there in the lineup observing other people’s epic rides while you, in turn, paddle for a wave and falter, use that to your advantage. Consider your failures as something worth improving upon and try to understand what the good surfers are doing so that you can correct your technique. It’s okay to feel completely uncoordinated as you lie there awkwardly, belly down, on the surfboard. It’s better to be out there on the water than cooped up in your house or office wondering why you didn’t push yourself harder.

Tip #1: Once you go, keep at it for a month.

The best way to get through the difficult beginning stage of your surfing career is to make it as short as possible. Try to dedicate a whole month to your pursuit of surfing. Get in the water every day no matter what the conditions are. Rain or shine, just get out there, paddle around a bit. You don’t even have to catch a wave! The simple act of being on the water and trying will advance your ability is enough.

Tip #2: Choose the right place to learn.

If you’re heading out as frequently as you should, you should also consider choosing one good learning spot. Find a break that is convenient, where people are nice and friendly, and where you feel comfortable. You’ll establish a comfortable routine in no time, and most likely you’ll acquire some surfing companions! Once you begin paddling out to the same break day in and day out, people will recognize you and help you. Eventually, they may even wonder where you were if you missed a day and will keep you on track.

Tip #3: Observe advanced surfers, and learn from them.

There are also ways to learn how to surf when you’re not even in the water! Pick up some good surfing videos and study them for your next session in the water. There are even some good instructional surfing videos at SouthCoast.com taught by pro surfers that are worth a look. Take mental note of the areas your surfing could improve on, like how to stand on the board, when to pop up, how to duck dive, how to paddle effectively. Then paddle out and work on what you’re having trouble with the most based on what you’ve seen. You can also learn a lot by observing surfers on the beach. Pick one or two that seem to be catching the most and best waves at that break. Then, analyze what it is they are doing that is effective. Maybe they are paddling longer or harder or popping up quicker. Maybe they know the right place to line up to catch the best waves and you don’t yet. Observing other surfers is particularly effective if you are having trouble paddling into waves. If you’re desperately paddling your heart out, but the guy three feet from you is catching every wave that comes by, you have some homework to do. Chances are that better surfers have better wave knowledge of your favorite spot, and their familiarity with the wave gives them an edge. Next time you’re on the beach, watch them and find out what makes your local wave tick.

Tip #4: Observe beginning surfers, then critique yourself.

Likewise, you can learn what not to do. Countless times beginning surfers make mistakes that prevent them from properly catching waves. Sometimes they lie too far back on their boards or don’t pop up soon enough. Other times, they seem heavy footed and not quick to respond to the conditions of the wave. Make a list of things that beginning surfers do wrong and strive to check your own mistakes off that list. Use it as a checklist when you paddle out each day. That, along with your list of what TO DO, will get you to the next level in no time!

Waves swell and crash because of a complex interaction between the wind, the ocean, and gravity. A surfer doesn't need to be a scientist to learn how to judge the waves. But being aware of some of their behavior and how to react to them will keep you safer.

The wave tube is formed by a swell, which results from continual strong waves brushing over the surface of the ocean near the shore. The stronger the offshore wind, the bigger the swell.

Reefs, sand bars and other formations under the water play a big role in how the water moves. As a swell passes over a reef it will tend to rise.

Waves crest because the water builds up as the land gets more shallow. But they can only sustain themselves to a certain point before gravity brings the crest down.

Until you get more experience, stick with simple environment conditions. Don't go out when the weather is extremely bad or good. Big winds mean big swells. Keep the waves you attack down to about 3-4 feet (1-1.2 m). Anything larger is too big a challenge at this stage.

As you paddle out to the wave, be aware of what's nearby and what goes on around you. Piers, and rocky outcroppings can alter the way the wave acts. As the wave moves around them it tends to produce a swirl. Paddle out away from all obstructions, past any near shore barriers, then turn around.

Once you're out far enough, you'll want even more to keep an eye on the water's movements. You'll need to keep glancing over your shoulder to judge the wave speed, direction and size. At the same time, you need to be aware of how close you are moving toward the shore and any other nearby surfers.

Wear sun protection swimwear and a sun hat, apply sunscreens where possible. Skin protection should be a priority when spending a lot of time on the beach learning how to surf or studying how waves behave. After all, surfing should be fun, exiting and safe. There are special type of swimwear for surfing, such as surf shirt, swim tights, sunsuits, stinger suits, and sun hats. Make sure your surfing gear provide maximum sun protection with UPF50+ UV protection.

Stand, be counted and be safe. your surfing experience should be like no other. This sport is well loved by outgoing and sports minded people and it is open to all to enjoy. There are many websites that promote surfing, so take your time to get more information and study how you can become a good surfer.

Safety is number one. Protect yourself against the sun's UV radiation and learn good surfing techniques.
